NEW YORK, 17 September 2017—The Natural Resource Governance Institute (NRGI) is deeply concerned about the ongoing detention of Myanmar photojournalists Minzayar Oo and Hkun Lat.

While on official assignment with a German magazine, they were detained in Cox’s Bazar, Bangladesh, and have been held without bail since 7 September.

Minzayar Oo and Hkun Lat have worked with the Yangon-based nongovernmental organization and NRGI grantee Myanmar Deitta since 2013. They are recipients of numerous national and international journalism awards, and have worked extensively with leading publications. Their photographs are currently on show at premier New York photography festival Photoville.

NRGI has had the honor of partnering with Myanmar Deitta on ongoing photo projects. Myanmar Deitta photojournalists exhibit strong editorial judgment and the highest commitment to journalistic standards.

“Minzayar Oo and Hkun Lat are accomplished photojournalists dedicated to raising public awareness,” NRGI president and CEO Daniel Kaufmann said. “NRGI looks forward to word of their immediate release.”
