NRGI Experts Speak at International Anti-Corruption Conference
NRGI experts participated in three events at this year’s International Anti-Corruption Conference, in Malaysia, all on Thursday, September 3. The conference ends on Friday, September 4. Follow all the action on Twitter via our handle @NRGInstitute, @16IACC and the hashtag #16IACC.
NRGI president Daniel Kaufmann joined a plenary conversation on the role of anti-corruption and transparency in the fight against poverty. Slides to the presentation are here and video is just below:
Moderated by Ron Nixon, Washington correspondent for the New York Times, Mr. Kaufmann and other experts including Transparency International founder Peter Eigen discussed integrity, transparency and accountability, and debated guidelines for fair and open foreign direct investment.
Also on Thursday, Mr. Kaufmann weighed in on transparent governance in Latin America with public and private sector representatives at a session hosted by the Inter-American Development Bank.
NRGI governance programs director Alexandra Gillies (co-author of NRGI’s recent report on the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation) chaired a morning discussion on the mechanics of corruption, exploring specific case studies and analyzing incidence data from a variety of sources. She was joined by NRGI Asia Pacific/Myanmar manager Matthieu Salomon.
