Diagnosing Governance Challenges in the Extractive Sector: The Resource Governance Index and Beyond
As part of the 2017 Civil Society Policy Forum of the International Monetary Fund and World Bank Group Annual Meetings, NRGI will host the Washington, D.C., launch of the 2017 Resource Governance Index on 12 October. The U.S. event follows a global launch in London.
Tanzania Natural Gas Policy
NRGI has released two further reports in its series analyzing the Tanzanian government’s approach to managing the country’s offshore natural gas sector: "Uncertain Potential: Managing Tanzania’s Gas Revenues" and "Negotiating Tanzania’s Gas Future: What Matters for Investment and Government Revenues?" NRGI experts led a discussion on their research on 28 September in Dar es Salaam.

In a Low-Carbon Future, Better Mineral Governance Could Power Development
Across the different minerals used in clean technologies, on average 42 percent of reserves are in countries with “good” or “satisfactory” resource governance rankings in the 2017 Resource Governance Index, 37 percent are in countries with “weak” scores and a further 7 percent are in countries that score “poor.” Almost none of the reserves are in countries that are “failing” in their resource governance.
