Transparency in the World’s Oil, Gas and Mining Industries: the U.K.’s Contribution
13 March 2019 • 6:30AM BDST
The event will be held in central London. The exact location is to be confirmed.
The U.K. and other countries have achieved good progress in promoting natural resource transparency over the last 15 years, through reporting under the Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative and mandatory reporting rules.
However, more work is needed to progress from transparency to accountability. Gaps remain in the scope and coverage of extractive companies’ disclosures of payments to governments and in the clarity and accessibility of the disclosed data. The complementary opening up of contract and beneficial ownership information is also needed.
This session will cover the current state and future actions for natural resource transparency, providing an overview from the government, civil society and private sector representatives. The event is part of #OpenGovWeek, running from 11-17 March.
Agenda:
10:30 am-11:30 am presentations
11:40 am-1 pm discussion and Q&A
